Building a Credible GeoIntelligent Infrastructure for Defence and Internal Security

Abstract
Equipping all echelons of the military with credible and accurate geospatial information is imperative to maintain a strategic and tactical advantage over an adversary. Globally, the IT industry and Geographic Information Systems continue to evolve to enable the rapid fusion, analysis and delivery of information to and from the headquarters using logistics and communications infrastructure. Fuelled by new concepts of “private clouds” and “lightweight devices”, it is now possible for superior geospatial maps, analysis and plans to be deployed immediately to the battlefield. Concurrently, their location, reports and health can be communicated instantly to the headquarters ensuring the command has ready and reliable awareness of the operation. This empowers the entire brigade to counter threats with advanced decision support and tactical combat support – all “fighting off the same map”. As the foundation for multi-scale topographic maps, high resolution imagery and mission planning, Geospatial Information Systems clearly play an increasingly important role. Today’s Enterprise GIS delivers information superiority, deciding the outcome of a battle well before shots are exchanged. Esri and our partners AGI, Exelis and i2 are employed by the lion’s share of global Defence and National Security organisations and are trusted to deliver that information superiority.
